Swing

It’s been a quiet summer for the Swing.  We have been jolly busy lately but no excuses, thankfully Linda and Kirsten saved us with their contribution. Kirsten brought in her clogs, a souvenir from a college trip to Holland and Linda brought her clog slippers which we are all very envious of.

Swing – At last!

We have had a fabulously busy start to the year, sadly though this has resulted in us neglecting the Swing.  Fortunately new Nomad recruit  Lewis saved us with this fabulous effort.  Apparently Lewis is a Chilli farmer.  We don’t know yet if he grows other things but it bodes well for this years crop of tomatoes. He tells us that  there are 5 seeds: Anaheim (500 – 2,500 Scovilles), Hungarian Hot Wax (5,000 – 15,000 Scovilles), Jalapeno (2,500 – 8,000 Scovilles), Tabasco (30,000 – 50,000 Scovilles) and Demon Red (5,000 – 30,000 Scovilles). To encourage them he also brought a number of dried chillis in a jar from the last batch he grew.

Swing

This weeks swing had to be our annual Pumpkin competition.  Sadly due to holidays, other work commitments and generally poor sportsmanship we only had two entries this year making this years competition very intense.  However after a day long twitter vote  and a survey of interior design students at Glasgow School of Art, Scott’s ‘Cheshire Cat’ won by just two votes.  Val changed her vote at the last minute when she saw Antonio’s ‘Last Supper’ Pumpkin  but it was still not enough to save Antonio’s masterpiece.  Scott’s prize was a hearty slap on the back from his competitor and the sense of achievement one gets from winning! Well done Scott, a well deserved and long overdue win!

Swing

This weeks swing is a bit of a studio effort. It is sad indeed to admit but we began collecting Kinder Surprise hero collection last year and nearly got the whole set before this rather odd obsession wore off.  Anyway we have been left with these little guys and they look very cute on the Swing, especially the ever so smiley Ben Grim.

Possibly the Creepiest Swing Ever!

This week’s swing is by Unzola.  Unzola has been in the studio for the last month doing work experience and is the proud producer of the creepiest Nomad swing ever!  The bones are not a mere morbid obsession though as they were used as part of her art portfolio at high school.  She collected and preserved the bones over three months before before she started to take photographs and producing hand drawings of them.  We think it was quite brave considering as she is a Vegetarian.  Good luck to Unzola as she enters 4th year at the GSA

Swing

This week’s swing is by Victoria.  Victoria has been in the studio doing work experience over the last month. The swing is inspired by our wave graphic in the window and is her representation of Jonah and the whale or at least what was left of Jonah after he met the whale.  She made the whale in a children’s craft workshop at an Art gallery in Liverpool and Jonah was a keepsake stolen from her art foundation course.  She claims it was a victimless crime.  Good luck goes to Victoria for her 4th year at GSA (and possibly in the small claims court after this post)

Swing

This weeks swing is courtesy of Antonio or rather his girlfriend Louise.  Louise studied Visual Communication at GSA and has collected these old sign letters on her travels around the world. We think they are really beautiful.  Sadly she does not have a N.O.M.A and D so we still have no sign outside the studio although excitingly there are now plans for one as we have decided it is time to stop confusing taxi drivers and postmen – more on this soon.
